Tracking Social Media
- Is monitoring the web in real time that important?
Yes. The importance of knowing what people are saying about your brand online shouldn’t be underestimated. There are reviews and customer feedback on brands every second. Negative mentions of brands or products can damage reputations extensively.
In addition to responding to reviews and customer feedback, real-time monitoring also helps with marketing and R&D: positive news and reviews can be shared and published across sites on the internet, product and services teams can keep track of what the competition is doing.
- What business value does social media monitoring offer?
Social media tools make it possible for people to have conversations online. The number of conversations, comments and reviews has seen explosive growth and the importance of these conversations is growing daily. Among many other things, people are discussing brands, describing their purchase intentions and asking for assistance in making buying decisions or product support. In addition to constant listening to their market, brands should conduct an initial, then annual social media audit to be successful in their endeavors. Just as brands conduct audits of inventory, employees, and budgets on an often annual basis, they should also survey the landscape to find out what customers, influencers, partners and employees are participating on the social web. Audits are key for identifying priorities, benchmarking previous efforts, and planning for future efforts; the same applies for social media.
Social media monitoring brings observational research to a mass audience. By tracking what is said in forums, on Twitter and in other social networks, brands can gain customer insight. But beyond getting researchers excited, it can also offer very practical benefits to organizations. Customer service teams can listen to customer issues online and then try and resolve them. Competitor Intelligence departments can find out what customers are saying about competing products. PR Managers can get early warning of pending PR disasters before they hit main-stream media. By listening first, companies can be better prepared to join online conversations and become more social.

Any company or individual who wants to protect brand and monitor competition activity. Marketing professionals will want to track their brand online and measure the effectiveness of social media campaigns. They will also find the competition tracking invaluable. - How does it work?
Select the Brand Monitor Edition that suits your needs, add the keywords you want to monitor into our “Search Topic” setup and the system takes care of everything from there. We go into our index and start getting data for you that is filtered for relevance, spam and sentiment. The posts are displayed in a manner that is easy for you to understand and take action. We also show you comprehensive graphs and reports that at a glance give you an overview of the situation for each search bucket.
- How is Brand Monitor different from other monitoring tools?
thismoment Brand Monitor has been developed as a technology platform that can be scaled to support multiple business applications that leverage real-time monitoring of social media conversations. Some of the key features that differentiate us from other similar platforms:
Analysis capability: thismoment sentiment and relevancy engine is built on agent based structured machine learning algorithms which uses contextual semantic analysis based on market vertical data across millions of data posts to provide quality results. It leveraged thismoment’s prior experience in building algorithms to optimize bids on millions of keywords for search engine marketing.
Influencer Analysis: Identifying the influence level of users and sites is key to planning responses. thismoment Brand Monitor displays the influence level on each post, thereby helping companies focus on important conversations.
Workflow: Monitoring is the first step in the process. thismoment Brand Monitor has a workflow management module that provides features that, combined, are not available in any single platform.
- Forward post to an email, pre-set groups within the company
- Bookmark post in leading social media sites
- Track and display history of actions on each post
- Ability to modify sentiment
- How “real” is real time?
Brand Monitor continually identifies, indexes and links to breaking content, often within minutes of publication. Delays in data gathering can range from a few seconds to several minutes. Our sophisticated indexing systems dynamically recognize and adjust to publishing frequencies, receive notifications (pings) by publishers the moment new content hits the web, and polls key sites at frequent intervals. This multi-pronged strategy for indexing the flood of fast-breaking news and social media ensures availability to clients to act upon while it’s fresh enough to make a difference.
- How good is your sentiment analysis?
We use an advanced natural language processing engine to classify the keyword and the entities and a hybrid SVM machine learning algorithm to find out the sentiment per post. Our sentiment matching algorithm is around 80% accurate. We recognize that for each customer/industry may use the words differently and hence our machine learning algorithm automatically reclassifies documents as the user marks the sentiments per post.
- What kind of sources do you cover?
- We cover social media, blogs, podcasts, social video, photo sharing sites, microblogs, wikis, review sites and forums.

- What is the frequency at which you check for new data on all the sources?
Brand Monitor continually identifies, indexes and links to breaking content, often within seconds of publication.
- What do you do for data relevancy?
We pay attention to what our clients want, and use every technological tool to find what’s on-point and weed out what’s not. Brand Monitor uses a Metabase XML application—including both semantic and geodata criteria—that applies more than 30 pieces of metadata per article. Plus, we “scrub” for spam and other junk that takes up space but contributes nothing beneficial. Bottom line: You get clean and pinpointed results based on your requirements.
- What kinds of support do you offer?
We love to hear anything you say. To help you reach us fast we have provided a feedback icon on the right hand side of your screen. Just click on it and you can input you Idea, Question, Problem or Praise. If your input is similar to what some other customers have asked, the system will show them all and the answers we provided them. That means you don’t need to wait for us to answer and will get the solution immediately. Email support is provided for all paid customers, and Enterprise edition customers get priority support.

Using Brand Monitor
- How do I get started the first time I log into Brand Monitor?

Once you have entered the necessary search terms you can click on the “Preview” button at the bottom to view a sample set of posts for the search terms entered. After viewing the results you can either edit the search terms to improve the relevance of posts by clicking on “Edit” or you can click on “Submit” to create the desired search topic.

You will also be able to add Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn account to Brand Monitor by accessing the “Settings” section and clicking on the appropriate option appearing on the left.
- Can I suggest a domain to crawl?
Yes, this feature is available for Enterprise edition customers. Just click on the feedback button within the platform (on the right of the screen) and add the source in the idea section. We will evaluate your suggestion, get it added into our system and you start seeing posts from that source very soon.
- Do you cover Non-English content also?
We have just started testing with non-English content and should have this incorporated soon.
- How can I discover new trends online by the use of the tool?
Don’t look for your company-related names; look for trends and issues associated with your industry and your marketplace. You may have conducted surveys and other research in the past – with social media you can do the same in real-time.
- How do you deal with spam?
Any new domain goes through a set of checks to see if it meets the standards set by us to be part of our white list domain. This process does have its flaws and some domains do sneak through. So now you have the option of marking a domain as spam by clicking the spam icon next to each post and this will remove the post from that domain.
- Can I have access to old posts also?
Yes. Any new search bucket will give you access to the last 1 months posts. Going forward, as new posts get added to the search bucket (as we discover them and however large the volume) they get archived. None of the old posts are deleted.
- I have a billing question/problem. How do I contact you?
Send an email to
BMSupport@thismoment.com and one of our customer care executives will get in touch with you within 24 hours.
